This just in- fellow purveyors of scoops and speculation macrumors note that a recent patent filing from Apple shows the features that many have been waiting for may not be too far off. Among other applications mentioned in a filing pertaining to an iPhone-like device are descriptions of a “digital video camera application”. Assuming Apple’s iPhone elves have already wedged a video camera into the upcoming v2 model along with 3G and GPS, this news pretty much seals the deal for us.

CNET is reporting on another reason Monday could the big day we’ve all been waiting for- apparently there is confirmation that the App Store is ready to go and will be live sometime Monday. We expect it will go live shortly following the keynote at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
Developers have long known that June is the likely month for the App Store launch, as this year’s Apple Design Awards included two iPhone-specific categories. Entries for this year’s ADAs were due weeks ago, so expect there to be a surprising amount of quality apps ready to go once Apple decides to flip the switch on the store- including a few from Apple itself.
WWDC seems to be the most appropriate occasion for this to come together, and, assuming this ties in with the 3G iPhone rumours and announced Canadian launch, we couldn’t be more excited.
Electronista’s operatives inside Rogers are hinting that the pendulum might swing the other way- we could have the cheapest data plans to date. Most of the speculation surrounds the $7 “unlimited” browsing option we mentioned earlier.
According to the article, iPhone in Canada will be “available the same month as an expected US release of an updated, 3G-capable model rather than as part of any possible staggered launch.” Looks like we’re going to skip the current iteration and go straight for the long-anticipated 3G version.
Our guess? We’ll wager it’s going to be available as of the WWDC keynote, alongside the appstore and official firmware version 2.0, but hold back on making any bets as to whether we’ll get MMS and video capabilities as well for now.
We are looking for interviews, news, and general information about Canadian developers targeting the iPhone platform. If you have an app (idea*) in the works- we want to hear about it and you. Drop us a line in the comments if you’re up for being interviewed/profiled.
* yes, we know the SDK is US-only right now, but it won’t stay that way for long.
